Doing Your Individual Income Tax Returns

for Free, absolutely!

Notes

The overriding principle in designing this app is this: a simplest possible structure to deal with most of basic and straight-forward tax situations and yet flexible enough to effectively address much more complex tax scenarios.

To get a sense of the app's capacity, here are a number of those scenarios posed as first-person inquiring questions to which the answers are all Yes:

  •  I am trading regularly in the markets. Can your app handle my short-term and long-term capital gains (loss)?
  •  Just to follow up on the previous question, is your app capable of calculating my tax liability using IRS's Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet?
  •  In addition to my job as a waitress, I also run a small self-employed business. Can your app figure out automatically if and how much I may claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on my tax return?
  •  I have normally taken standard deductions in my tax returns over the last few years, but this tax year situation is quite different so that I am thinking about the possibility of using itemized deductions instead. We have also made some charitable contributions. Can your app automatically choose a deduction method between the two that is better for me?
  •  Can your app programmatically sort out how much I can claim on Child Tax Credit, refundable and nonrefundable, given my situation?
  •  Just to follow up on the question on Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). I happened to have a higher earned income in 2019 but I have been advised to try both the (higher) 2019 earned income and the (lower) earned income this year to see which one would give me a higher EITC. Is your app capable of sorting out these two alternatives so the best one would be automatically elected in my tax return this year?

  • This is a serious software that should help you to complete your tax accurately and efficiently, given your submitted input. It can handle tax scenarios far more complex than basic, simple federal income tax returns, provided that you do your part to prepare your basic calculations in those more involved cases. To help you take full advantage of it, we provide as much as possible detailed instructions in every page, especially in those pages where you need to enter the required input. It would be worthwhile to follow closely those instructions.

    Additional Important Remarks

Unlike all the free tax preparation apps that we are aware of on the internet, there is NO (higher) income threshold limit for you to use our app for free.

We will NOT offer to electronically file your federal tax returns for you. Consequently, the ONLY piece of information needed for you to register to use the app is your regular valid, verifiable email address that you can gain access to. In the process of using our app you will NEVER be asked to give your personal information such as your name(s), addresses, phone numbers, Social Security number(s), etc. On the last page of the app, the final results will appear as a report resembling almost line-by-line Form 1040 of your Individual Income Tax Return. You decide for yourself on which format (paper or electronic) to prepare for and to file your own tax returns using the results generated in the app's final report. Should you decide to file your returns electronically (e-file), you can directly complete IRS Free File Fillable Forms with those generated results.

The app is offered free only for your PERSONAL use to prepare your OWN tax return—by using it, you automatically agree with this condition. We reserve the right to suspend your use of the app, without warnings, if this condition is violated.

Finally, our app is made available only for educational purposes by nature. Consult your tax advisors, lawyers and investment advisers for your professional needs.

One further thought: A useful way to see what this app is capable of and to what extent your particular tax situation can be best handled is for you to run through this app using data input from one of your already filed tax returns which you filed in the last two years (2019, 2020). We've provided these options together with the current tax year option when you start the app. There is no better way to confirm your "answers" by matching them with (presumably correct) "solutions"!

    Good Luck!
